Scholarships
Sun River Electric, Montana Electric Cooperatives' Association and Basin Electric Power Cooperative are offering several scholarships to students who live on the Sun River Electric system. Applications are available at SREC or your local school. MECA offers two $500 scholarships and basin Electric will offer one $1,000 scholarship. Sun River Electric offers nine $500 scholarships, one to each school in the SREC service area. The deadlines are as follows:

SUN RIVER ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIP
Who is eligible?
Graduating seniors who are dependant children of SREC consumers, and will be a freshman at a college or trade school.
What is the amount of the scholarship?
There are ten $500.00 scholarships going to high schools in the SREC service area. These scholarships are partially funded by capital credit checks that have been unclaimed for more that 5 years and have been considered abandoned property.
How do I apply?
Sun River Electric furnishes instructions and applications to high school counselors in the service area. The application deadline is April 9, 2010.
2009 SUN RIVER ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Nine area students have been selected to receive the 2009 Sun River Electric Cooperative Scholarship. Criteria for the scholarship includes: academics, parents or guardian must be a SREC member and the student must write a paragraph on future goals.

Over the past 15 years Sun River Electric Cooperative has awarded more than $75,000 to ten area schools. The scholarships are funded by the general budget and are offset by unclaimed capital credit checks. Sun River Electric Cooperative believes in educating today’s young adults.
MECA SCHOLARSHIP
Who is eligible?
You must be a member of Sun River Electric Cooperative, or a son or daughter of a member. The applicant must be either a graduating high school senior entering his or her freshman year at a college or trade school or a current college undergraduate student. Graduate students are ineligible.
What is the amount of the scholarship?
There are two $500.00 scholarships statewide.
How do I apply?
To apply, the applicant can pick up an application at the Sun River Electric office in Fairfield, Montana, or call 1-406-467-2526 or 1-800-452-7516, and we will mail an application to you. You may also get an application from a high school guidance counselor of a high school in the SREC service area. The deadline for the applications is January 29, 2010.
Andrea Bennyhoff of Fairfield High School is the recipient of the 2009 Montana Electric Power $1000 Scholarship. And will be attending Montana State University in Bozeman and majoring in graphic design. Andi is the daughter of Michelle and John Lauver of Fort Shaw.
BASIN ELECTRIC POWER COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP

There is one $1,000.00 scholarship for a Sun River Electric applicant.

Thane Peebles has been selected to receive the 2009 Basin Electric Power Cooperative $1000 college scholarship. Thane is a senior at Choteau High School, he was chosen for the scholarship based on his outstanding academic standing, extracurricular activities and his goals for the future. Thane plans to attend Montana Tech in Butte this fall majoring in Welding Engineering. Thane is the son of William and Sonja Peebles of Choteau.
