What should you do if the power goes out?
Check the breakers or fuses in your house, you can reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Please note that a blown fuse or tripped breaker is a warning that you may have an electrical problem with your wiring. If you need repairs beyond the meter you will need to contact an electrician.
If your power is still off after checking the breakers inside your home, you will need to check the main breaker, which is usually located just below the meter. If the main breaker is tripped, you can reset it. This can also warn you if there is a problem on your side of the meter. If your power is still off, then you need to call SREC at the above phone numbers. It is also helpful to us if you call your neighbors to see if they have power. This will help us to determine how widespread the outage may be.
Be sure to have your account name, location, account number, and phone number if at all possible.
While the power is out be sure to unplug any major appliances to insure damage does not occur when power is restored. Keep your refrigerator and freezer closed, they will stay cold for at least 24 hours if they are not opened and closed. Have flashlights and candles available. It is also helpful to have non-perishable food and water in storage.
